The word Vermont comes from two French words: vert (green) and mont (mountain). Dairy farming and tourism are Vermont's major industries. Tourists visit Vermont to see leaves turn red, golden and amber in the fall and snow-covered mountains in the winter. Vermont produces more maple syrup than any other state.
