USA: WASHINGTON DC

Washington, District of Columbia, is located between Maryland and Virginia. It is not a state but a federal district set up to be home to the government for all of the United States. Washington, D.C. became capital of the U.S. in 1800. Millons of people visit the District of Columbia every year. They come to see the Smithsonian Institution, the Lincoln Memorial, the U.S. Capitol and other popular tourist attractions.

With marble steps and iconic columns, the Thomas Jefferson Memorial is a smaller version of the Roman Pantheon, and its interior walls contain inscriptions from the Declaration of Independence. It’s especially spectacular during the spring cherry blossom season..
